Bodywork for the Childbearing Year and Pregnancy Massage

The following is an email that explains what Bodywork for the Childbearing Year entails.

QUESTION: Hi! My wife and I are staying in Gloucester 6-28 through 7-12. She is just about 4 months pregnant. I saw your bodywork for the childbearing year. Can you tell me more about it? Thanks. Scott

ANSWER: Hi Scott, Yes, the Bodywork for the childbearing Year is a training I completed in 1991. It allows the technique of massage to specifically focus on the needs of a woman after she conceives, while pregnant and right after delivery, hence "Year" of childbearing (9 + months). It also covers infant massage once the baby is born. The focus is on relaxation and deep tissue work. Specifically for the pelvic region, low back, legs and feet, head, neck and shoulders. Deep
tissue release without causing pain to structures such as ligaments, tendons, musculature, etc. that are already challenged with the changes of carrying a baby to term.

As a client, your wife would be draped and on the table starting on her back but propped up with a full support body cushion. In this position I would work on her upper back, arms, shoulders, neck and head.  Aromatherapy oils that are tolerable and safe for your wife and baby are used to enhance the experience of relaxation.  From here,  we gently move your wife to her left side on the full body cushion to avoid the artery in the torso bearing the weight of the baby. We would roll her to her right side towards the end of the session.

I also offer Jin Shin Jyutsu sessions with my massage and/or Polarity Therapy as a means to relax both Mom and baby from the inside out. These sessions can be done with the massage or separately.
